Contract operations held up while aftermarket shrank
Contract operations revenue rose 1.5% to $331.2 million from $326.3 million. Aftermarket services revenue fell to $39.7 million from $56.2 million. The company said customers wanted less major maintenance and bought fewer parts.
Contract operations adjusted gross margin was $238.7 million, or 72% of segment revenue. A year earlier it was $239.6 million, or 73%. Without the tax benefit, the 2025 figure was $229.7 million and 70%. On that basis this quarter's margin was higher.
Aftermarket adjusted gross margin fell to $9.1 million from $13.0 million. The percentage stayed at 23%.

Why it matters
OptimistFi has argued that Archrock compounds value if outsourced compression stays tight enough to price above the cost of new horsepower. The quarter supports that view in contract operations. Revenue grew even as operating horsepower fell to 4.5 million from 4.7 million after the sale of about 112,000 non-strategic operating horsepower.
CEO Brad Childers described a structurally tight compression market. He said bookings were the strongest since the second quarter of 2023, including strong bookings in the Permian Basin.
The caution is that spot fleet utilization was 94.3% at period end, down from 96.0% a year earlier. Aftermarket demand is soft as customers defer maintenance. Childers also cited higher lube oil prices as near-term cost pressure, which management is mitigating through cost discipline and operating efficiencies. On balance the quarter is mixed for the case.
Leverage, cash flow and the dividend
Leverage fell to 2.5x at Sept. 30, 2026 from 3.1x a year earlier. Long-term debt was $2.3 billion, $216.8 million below the $2.56 billion at Sept. 30, 2025. Available liquidity was $637 million. Interest expense fell to $37.0 million from $43.7 million. Selling, general and administrative expense fell to $26.0 million from $37.7 million.
Cash generation was weaker. Adjusted free cash flow fell to $49.6 million from $113.8 million. After dividends it was $9.0 million, against $76.9 million. Net capital expenditures were $106.8 million against $53.0 million, and the 2025 figure was reduced by $71.0 million of proceeds from the sale of a business.
The board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.23 per share, or $0.92 annualized. That is about 10% higher than in the third quarter of 2025, with dividend coverage of 3.8x. It is payable Nov. 10 to holders of record Nov. 3. No shares were repurchased in the quarter, and $113.2 million remains under the repurchase program.
What's next
Archrock holds its conference call on Nov. 3 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. Management's comments on aftermarket maintenance deferrals and lube oil costs bear most directly on the mixed read.
The reaffirmed full-year 2026 Adjusted EBITDA guidance of $865 million to $885 million is the yardstick. Results inside that range would back the view that compression demand is intact. A shortfall would put the pricing argument in doubt.
