Nordson (NASDAQ: NDSN) completes Contrinex acquisition for $168 million

What happened

Nordson Corporation (NASDAQ: NDSN) said on October 23, 2026, that it completed its acquisition of Contrinex Holding SA. Nordson London Limited, its wholly owned subsidiary, bought all of Contrinex's issued and outstanding equity interests from Annette Heimlicher. The filing values the transaction at an enterprise value of about $168 million.

Contrinex is based in Corminboeuf, Switzerland. Nordson described it as a global technology leader in high-performance sensors for factory automation and related solutions. The business makes inductive position sensors, photoelectric position sensors and smart measurement sensors with integrated logic. Nordson said Contrinex's nearly 500 employees will join the company and that the business will be integrated into Advanced Technology Solutions.

Why it matters

OptimistFi's case is that Nordson is a high-margin precision-technology compounder, and this deal is mixed for that view. Contrinex has about $50 million in annual revenue, so OptimistFi calculates the enterprise value at about 3.36 times revenue. That gives investors a scale check, but it does not show how much the deal can add to earnings.

The main concern is what the filing leaves out. Nordson does not give margin, synergy or expected accretion figures. So the purchase does not yet show whether the sensors business will add cash-rich growth without acquisition-led EPS disappointment. The filing presents the deal as a fit with the portfolio, not as a measured financial win.

Contrinex also expands Nordson's exposure to factory automation, machine control and smart manufacturing. The release calls those attractive industrial automation trends. Nordson says the acquisition complements its test and inspection portfolio and supports its growth focus on factory automation and control solutions. But the filing does not turn those goals into a return profile.

What's next

The next test is Nordson's next quarterly report. Investors will look for signs that Contrinex adds revenue, margins and returns. A stronger report would show the business integrating cleanly. A weaker one would show a larger industrial sensing footprint without the cash-rich growth Nordson needs.
